There is such a powerful message in this seemingly "simple" painting. Every time I look at it I feel this surge of power and renewed motivation to deny societal norms. Call it a case of Stickitodemaniosis if you will.
I refuse to believe the lies and story that society tells women.
That they aren't beautiful after a certain age. That they have to fix this, nip that, tuck this. Hide the wrinkles, smile lines, cellulite. Deny all of the things that make us individually and collectively beautiful until we don't even recognize ourselves.
We are expected to hide every experience we have had in our life that might have left a mark on us to look presentable and perfect to the onlookers.
No.
I do not exist for your pleasure. I exist for mine.
Take up space. Show up fully as your beautiful self, with all of the stories and experiences of your tragic and/or beautiful life and f society and the patriarchy.
